Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between NCV and NATED programmes?

NCV (National Certificate Vocational): 3-year skills-focused qualification (Levels 2-4) with integrated theory and workplace practice. Minimum requirement: Grade 9. Focuses on vocational skills.

NATED/Report 191: Traditional technical college programmes (N1-N6) that can lead to diploma equivalence. Requires workplace experience (18-24 months) for diploma. Business N4 requires Grade 12; Engineering N1-N3 have various entry points.

Is the placement screening test really compulsory?

Yes, the Pre-Entry Placement Test is compulsory for all new applicants. However, you still have the right to choose your own course based on your preference. If you choose a course outside the screening recommendations, you'll sign an acknowledgement form. The screening helps ensure you're placed in a programme where you're most likely to succeed.

Can I apply if I only have Grade 9?

Yes, for NCV programmes, the minimum requirement is Grade 9. You can also apply with an NQF Level 1/ABET Level 4 qualification, an approved bridging programme, or through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment. For NATED programmes, requirements vary by level (N1-N6).

What happens if I lose my placement screening login details?

It's crucial to write down and store safely your Username and Password during registration. If you lose them, contact the college's IT support. If your internet connection drops during the screening, you can return as a "Returning User" with your credentials to continue where you left off.

How long does it take to get an N-Diploma?

For NATED programmes, you need: (1) Complete N4-N6 theoretical components (18 months), PLUS (2) Complete required practical experience (18 months for Business, 24 months for Engineering). Only after both components can you apply for the National N-Diploma.

Which campus should I apply to for engineering programmes?

All engineering-related programmes (NCV and NATED) are offered at the Sir Val Duncan Campus in Namakgale. This includes Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and IT & Computer Science NCV programmes, plus all NATED engineering trades.
